Calgary's real estate market ends year on strong note

The local real estate market has enjoyed a big turnaround this year.

Sales and prices nose-dived at the start of 2009, as the impact of the recession was being felt around the world.

Fred Ketchen with Scotia Capital tells 660News when spring arrived, many people realized the economic downturn in Canada was not nearly as bad as the one south of the border.

Ketchen says people started to take advantage of both reduced house prices and low interest rates and returned to the market.

Re/Max estimates by the end of the year MLS sales will reach 26 thousand up 12 percent from 2008.

The Calgary Real Estate Board reports both the sale of single family homes and condo's are up this year over last with prices still down about 5 percent over the same period.

In November the average price of a home in Calgary was pegged at $464 thousand dollars.

Dec 28th

Here's some great reading for you over the holidays.

http://www.westonaprice.org/Health-Topics/

Wow!!!

Gabriel Bourque scored three goals and added four assists as Canada opened the 2010 world junior championship with a 16-0 rout of Latvia on Saturday. Bourque's seven point outburst tied Team Canada's record for scoring in a world junior game.

Do you curb the enthusiasm, or do you let the players go for it?

Boxing Day

When is Boxing Day?

In Britain, Boxing Day is usually celebrated on the following day after Christmas Day, which is 26 December. However, strictly speaking, Boxing Day is the first weekday after Christmas (see definition in the Oxford English Dictionary).

Like Christmas Day, Boxing Day is a public holiday. This means it is typically a non working day in the whole of Britain. When Boxing Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday the following Monday is the public holiday. © copyright of projectbritain.com

Why is 26 December called Boxing Day?

Traditionally, 26 December was the day to open the Christmas Box to share the contents with the poor. copyright of projectbritain.com

What is a Christmas Box?

The Christmas box was a wooden or clay container where people placed gifts.

Day 1 of The Challenge

It's time to remember your loved ones who are unable to be with you over the holidays.

Take a moment and cherish the memories...

The Challenge!!!

Gang,

Great work thus far. I have discussed results with a few of you and you have every right to be proud of your accomplishments.

Maintain the momentum!

In our industry, we are only as good as our last poor job. In many cases we may complete 50 jobs for the customer and if one or two of those jobs go awry, we have a problem.

Such is the case with life.

If you make a mistake on the drive home, you end up in an accident; a slip up at home may have significant impact on your marriage; a bad decision with your children may significantly effect their future.

Fact is, we must be accountable to our decisions; good or bad.

The Challenge:

Maintain the momentum:

Eat right: Protein/carb/fat balanced meals consistently throughout the day;

Post three things each day:

1) Your food journal for the previous day. At the bottom of your post, indicate how many times you "cheated".

2) Be aware of your decisions. Rather than saying "I didn't have time" or "I can't", recognize that you made the decision "to not allocate time" or "I chose not to.." Post when this happens and your thought process around it.

3) Your WOD if you did one

ie:

BF: 6:30am - spolumbos sausage, 1 apple, 1 pear, 2 tbsp macadamia butter
9:30: Turkey jerky, banana, 20 almonds
Noon: 1 chicken breast, 2 large bowls of spinach with carrots and oil/vinegar dressing
3:00pm WOD
4:00pm: 2 scoops refuel, 1 scoop protein powder
4:45pm: turkey jerky, sandwich baggy full of broccoli and cauliflour
6:30pm: 8 pork ribs, 2 cups roasted veggies, 1/2 avocado, 1 bowl vanilla ice-cream
9:00pm: 1 apple, 1 tbsp nut butter

1 cheat today - ice cream

Said I didn't have time to flood the rink, when I watched the Survivor finale in lieu. Feeling a little guilty about not flooding the rink 'cause poople are coming over and they expect to skate on a nice rink. Maybe I'll flood it in the morning before work.

WOD: CTB FRAN: 5:09

Note:

There will be a reward for those who consistently participate!

If you miss a day, DON'T THROW IN THE TOWEL!!!! Pick up where you left off.

There will be another reward for those who do the best job at fighting temptation and have the least # "cheats" over the holidays.

This is based on the honor system. Be honest with yourself, be honest with us.

Share your results on this blog. This is a group effort. Posting your results will help each of us with accountability.

Good luck...make good decisions.

3.2.1.....GO!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear Lord,

I've been asked, nay commanded, to thank Thee for the Christmas turkey before us...a turkey which was no doubt a lively, intelligent bird...a social being...capable of actual affection...nuzzling it's young with almost human-like compassion.

Anyway, it's dead and we're gonna eat it. Please give our respects to its family...

Answer to yesterday's question:

"At the end of the day"

Choose any two words or phrases that you would like to remove from your vocabulary. What will you replace the word or phrase with?

Post them here. Make the change effective today.

(ie: replace "should" with "will"; replace "see you later" with "see you soon")

Question of the day:

What is the most over-used phrase in the office?
